DIRECTV FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still install DIRECTV if I lived in a multi-tenant buildings such as condos, apartments, and etc?

The first qualifying consideration is to make sure that you have a clear line of sight to the Southern sky. In a multi-tenant building, and if you are located on the lower floors, you may run into a problem where an object or a building might be block the line of sight to the DIRECTV satellite in the Souther sky. In most cases, you would want to consult with your landlord or property manager about installing a DIRECTV® satellite dish/es the roof or other suitable locations in the building. If your property manager or landlord do not allow placing the satellite dish/es on the roof, you may request if installing the DIRECTV dish/es on your balcony or patio, or other suitable location. Sometimes the installation of your DIRECTV system (dish/es and/or converter units) may require structural changes that might be restricted or limited by the lease. In these cases, to avoid delays and possible problems in installation of your DIRECTV system, we recommend that you obtain a written or verbal permission from your property management and/or the landlord. You can also review your lease agreement to confirm permission before scheduling installation with DIRECTV and you can use the DIRECTV Installation Permissioin Form to document the permission. Any unreasonable restrictions enforeced by the property managers or landlords against installing satellite dishes that are a meter or less in size are prohibited by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Do I need to pay for the equipment and are they expensive?

You DON'T need to pay for expensive equipment. DIRECTV provides the FIRST RECEIVER FOR FREE and leases additional receivers for $4.99 per month. DIRECTV also offers FREE INSTALLATION in up to four rooms if you subscribe to 12 months of any CHOICE programming package. For Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or High Definition TV (HD) services, you can ask your DIRECTV representative about promotions such as FREE HD DVR Upgrade and FREE HD Channel for 3 Months. Click on the banner to Order Online or call (866) 320-5002 to order over the phone.

Is leasing DIRECTV equipment better?

As DIRECTV technology changes and advances extremely fast, you would be looking at the cost of replacing your system everytime something better is released to DIRECTV customers. It is cost prohibitive to keep up with the changes and leasing DIRECTV equipment will ensure that you keep up with the latest technology at the lowest possible costs. Also by leasing equipment, you can be assured of upgrades and free replacement of receivers.

Are there different fees for leasing different DIRECTV equipment?

For DIRECTV receivers, the fee is $4.99/month and is waived on the first receiver. For other equipment such as DVRs, HD receivers and HD DVRs, please call 866-320-5002 to take advantage of any available promotions.

I am moving. How can I move my DIRECTV equipment and keep the service?

You can do so by calling us at 1-866-WAY-U-MOVE (1-866-929-8668). This is a free program available to our customers and you can call before you actually move to take advantage of DIRECTV MOVERS CONNECTION™. Simply leave the dish/es behind in your old place and take your DIERCTV equipment to your new place of residence. For Alaska or Hawaii, new equipment might be needed. And unless you are moving to Latin America, for anyone moving out of the United States, it is legally prohibited to offer services to you. If you are moving to Latin America, please review our offerings for that market. In new residence, sports blackouts and local channels may be affected.

Is it possible to get DIRECTV and watch the programs on more than one telvision sets in my home?

Do I have to pay the full monthly subscription fees for every additional receiver?

The programming for your primary access card in your primary (main) receiver is duplicated to the access cards all of the additional receivers and you will receive the same programming for the additional receivers as you would on your main receiver.
